UN urges world powers and Iran to revive nuclear deal

 UN political affairs chief Rosemarie DiCarlo told the Security Council that the deal lifted sanctions on Iran and imposed strict restrictions on its nuclear program.


 





             He said that diplomacy is the best way, but time is of the essence.

According to the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has enriched uranium to 60 percent, which is close to weapons-grade standards. While Western countries said that Iran did not need to enrich uranium to this extent, other countries also did so only to make nuclear weapons.
It should be remembered that during the previous term of the newly elected US president, the United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018, after which Iran also gradually began to retreat from its obligations under the agreement. European countries have warned that they will reimpose sanctions if Iran does not return to the deal. In response, Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, called the move illegal and unconstructive.
He said that Iran has made it clear that such provocative actions will be met with a strong and proportionate response. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful and does not intend to develop any nuclear weapons.
